By: Pang Chia Yang and Kelly Brickner
INTRODUCTION
The topic of hazards in the house and work site is very important because many people may not be aware of the many dangers of chemicals and other products in their home along with the hazards involved with labor that can cause injuries or illnesses. We do spend most of our time going to work and being at home and it is essential that we are aware of these hazards in order to live long, healthy lives. According to the American Association of Poison Prevention, about 2.2 million Americans suffer from some type of poisoning in their home each year, and they receive 10,830 calls each day. Moreover, the Bureau of Labor Statistics states that nearly 3 million nonfatal workplace injuries and illnesses were reported in 2012. On the other hand, fatal work injuries has increased 5% in 2012. Our goal is to provide information that is helpful in preventing these types of poisonings, safety precautions to take, and to promote awareness of these hazards. This will include examples of dangerous substances in the house and the hazards in the work site.
